Heading out on a beach trip is a great way to spend time with your family. In order to maximize fun while at the beach, you need to decide what to take ahead of time. We’re not talking about the usual towel, chair, sunscreen, snacks, drinks, umbrella, or canopy. You’ve got the basics covered. We’re talking about the things that make a day with the sand and surf even more fun and enjoyable.
Thinking ahead can take a lot of the stress out of the day. Consider a few of the following ideas:
Blow-ups and Inflatables
Having these fun floaties is one of the perfect ways to enjoy your beach trip. Inflatables in the shape of sea life are always a big hit. Rafts and inner tubes to drift and paddle side by side offer a way to relax and catch some rays. Even pool noodles offer a way to drift the day away.
Shovels and Buckets
Let the kids build the castle of their dreams (or let your inner kid out) with shovels and buckets on your next beach trip. This old standby activity gives everyone the tools for creativity and treasure hunting enjoyment. Whether you build a castle, an expansive moat system, find buried treasure, or take a photo of someone being buried, you’ll have an endless amount of fun with this activity.
Frisbee, Balls, or Bean Bags
Grab these items on your next beach trip for some quality bonding time with the kids and some exercise at the same time. Besides the normal tossing back and forth, how about a game Frisbee beach golf? Set up targets and see how many throws it takes to get the closest. Or create an obstacle course for a little more challenge and excitement.
Water Balloons and Squirt Guns
Another terrific way to cool off from the sun and bring lots of smiles and laughs on your next beach trip. You’re already getting wet so why not take it to the next level? A game of water balloon toss is just right for any age. Remember to pick up the pieces of latex when you’re done!
Whether at the lake or sea, snorkeling gear can help you see under the water at your next beach trip. It’s easy to lose track of time as you watch schools of fish swim by or other sea life swim away when you float near. Your kids will discover a whole new world to explore. Also, most snorkels have one-way purge valves to prevent water from getting into your mouth.
Additional Beach Trip Activities
Besides bringing lots of fun items on your next beach trip, there are plenty of ways to pass the time even if you don’t bring anything special at all.
- Musical Beach Towels– Think musical chairs but with towels. You can choose to sit or stand on the towel when the music ends. Whoever doesn’t get a towel is out. Remove one towel for the next turn.
- Beach Hopscotch– All you need is a stick to draw the hopscotch squares and a seashell to throw. It’s as easy as that. Play alone or against someone for added fun.
- Tic Tac Toe– Once you draw the frame, find shells and pebbles for the X’s and O’s.
- Treasure Hunt– Come up with a list of things for others to find. Team up and make it a competition. The first team to find all the items on the list wins!
