Looking for outdoor activities with the kids this summer? Summer break always seems like it’s right around the corner. When it finally arrives, it can feel like the responsibilities and tasks just never end. It can be hard to juggle exploring new programs and activities for your kids as well as balance work with your own personal time.
While options like signing your kids up for summer camps and sports are usually great ideas, this year, those options may be limited. With that in mind, here are some outdoor activities you can do with your kids that can help them grow in their curiosity about the outdoors, keep them active, and provide you with some fun as well.
One of the most popular outdoor activities is a bike ride. Whether you are going for a short ride just down the street or checking out your local dirt trails, getting outside and breathing in nature can be so much fun. Take stops and teach your kids about the environment around them, pointing out the different flowers, plants, trees, and more. Provide them an opportunity to appreciate the time with you but also the outdoors. And, if you are worried about making an investment that your kids might grow out of too quickly, keep in mind that Sun & Ski Sports has a great Kid’s Bike Trade-Up Program. This program allows your kid to grow with their bike and give you the opportunity to trade it in when they outgrow it. Don’t know what kind of bike fits your needs? Read our blog post on how to pick out your first bike.
Another popular outdoor activity is camping. If you are looking for a quick adventure to the outdoors, there are so many fantastic camping grounds not too far out of town. Or you can even camp out in your backyard. If looking to travel away, always try to plan ahead and make a reservation for your time outside. Along with all of your camping gear, be sure to bring some fun activities like these:
- Spike Ball
- Bocce Ball
- Frisbees or Disc Golf
- S’more Kits
- Bean Bag Toss Corn Hole
- Glow in the Dark Ring Toss
- Water Balloon Volleyball
- Card Games
- Scavenger Hunt
- Campfire Stories
Another one of the more popular outdoor activities is to get out and enjoy the waters. There are so many options when it comes to getting on the water. From stand up paddleboarding, wakeboard cable parks, floating the river, and many others, getting on the water can be so much fun for both you and your kids!
- Wakeboard Cable Parks: Cable parks can be an excellent activity for your entire family to enjoy. Cable parks offer so many activities similar to a water park but without the claustrophobic feeling or chlorine smell. Most cable parks have stand up paddleboarding, aqua parks, wakeboard lessons, and camps for the kiddos too.
- Water & Pool Floats: Whether getting out on the lake, river, or just getting out in the sun by the pool, floats can be such a fun addition to your experience on the water. Fun floats and water games can elevate these experiences to the next level.
- Stand Up Paddle Boarding: There are so many locations to rent and explore paddle boarding! It’s a super easy activity to get wet with the kids and get some good laughs in the time on the water.
Local Hiking Spots
Using the app ALL TRAILS, you can find incredible hidden gems nearby or in areas you may visit. Use this opportunity to let your kids explore and learn about the incredible nature surrounding you. Nature books can be a fun way to both teach and entertain your kids about what plants and animals they may encounter.
Summertime can come with its challenges, but we hope that with some of these ideas, you may not only find success but fun in your adventures ahead. Stop by your local Sun & Ski Sports to check out many other activities and games to stay busy during the hot days ahead. And make sure to ask about their community events and group rides as well.
