More than 13,000 cyclists, with the help of 3,000 volunteers, will ride 185 miles from Houston to Austin April 17-18 to raise money to fight multiple sclerosis.
These individuals are participating in the 26th annual BP MS 150. The two-day cycling ride that raises money to help people living with MS is the largest fundraising event of its kind in North America. All of the funds raised from these rides go toward research aimed at treating and eventually curing MS. In addition, financial aid is also provided to those in need living with MS in Texas.
Sun & Ski Sports is sponsoring its annual team, and any cyclist may join by purchasing a membership at a Sun & Ski Sports location or on online. As a member of the team, participants receive numerous benefits including professionally designed team jerseys, in-store discounts, a team happy hour once a month, five free training rides sponsored by Sun & Ski Sports, access to the Sun & Ski Sports Team party and sleeping tents at the halfway point in La Grange (free food and massages are provided), luggage transportation from Houston to Austin, and a team celebration in Austin for completing the ride.
For more than 10 years, Sun & Ski Sports has sponsored a BP MS 150 team. In 2009, the team donated more than $452,000 and was ranked the third highest fundraising team overall.
Team Sun & Ski Sports has 340 riders this year and will begin the ride third, due to the high fundraising status. As always, the team aims to raise more than the previous year, says Natalie Moreno, Sun & Ski Sports Promotions and Special Events Manager and MS 150 Team Captain. This year’s goal is to maintain the third highest fundraising spot, she said.
With five stores located in Houston, Sun & Ski Sports sponsors only a team for the BP MS 150 from Houston to Austin. However, with three stores now located in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, Sun & Ski Sports hopes to create a team for the Sam’s Club MS 150 from Frisco to Fort Worth.
Registration for the BP MS150 Sun & Ski Sports Team is $85.00.
